Atenas belongs to the province of Alajuela and is an idyllic little town with about 5000 inhabitants, located approximately 35 km west of the capital San José. It is refreshing 700 meters above sea level. Because of its mild and spring like temperatures, this region is one of the most pleasant places in Costa Rica, a country also called the “Switzerland of Central America”. The climate of Atenas even received the title “best climate of the world” by the magazine National Geographic.

In Atenas there are several shops, supermarkets, coffee shops, gas stations, doctors, drugstores, a medical center, language schools, banks, a zoo, a botanical garden and many other necessary services. At the heart of the town you can find the central park with its small and charming church.
